Ireland’s 3rd largest city, Limerick boasts a abundance of shopping facilities, restaurants, cafés, clubs and bars. In addition to its more modern aspects the city has a long and rich heritageinfo and some amazing architecture
info ranging from Medieval castles and cathedrals through to the Georgian townhouses.
Though settlements existed prior to this, the original foundations for the city were built by Vikings in the 5th century. Following the Vikings, the Normans invaded, who wasted no time fortifying the region - in fact, Limerick county is widely reputed to have more castlesinfo than any other county in Ireland!
Limerick’s most famous castle, however, is King John’s Castleinfo who’s image can be seen on the city’s crest. This castle, situated upon the Shannon River, overlooks another Limerick icon, the Treaty Stone.info
The Treaty Stone was erected to commemorate the Treaty between the besieged Catholics of the city, and British forces during the Jacobeaninfo period.
Other places of historical interest include the Hunt Museum, infoas well as St Mary’s Cathedralinfo and St John’s Cathedral.
As for nightlife, Limerick has plentyinfo with a multitude of pubs, clubs and sportsbars. We recommend Dolan's Pubinfo
on the Dock Road, for nightly traditional music sessions in the bar as well as the best gigs from both Irish and international artists either in the Warehouse nightclub or in the “Upstairs” bar.
