Just over 12 kilometers from Shannon Airportinfo located just off the main road between Shannoninfo and Ennisinfo is Dromoland Castle, one of Ireland's most popular tourist destinations –

Dromoland Castle was once home to the O'Brieninfo clan, who also laid claim to Bunratty Castleinfo
The O'Briens were an old and powerful Gaelic clan, direct decendants of Brian Boruinfo the first High King of Ireland.
During the reign of King Henry VIII, the English King granted titles to those of the Irish aristocracy who were willing to accept his rule and offer fealty to him.
As a result the O'Brien's were given new titles, such as Murrough O'Brien, the Earl of Thomand.

Today the castle is a privately owned hotel and resort where the emphasis is firmly placed on luxury and leisiure.
Within the expansive grounds of the castle itself, Dromoland's award-winning golf course, with its very own pub and restuarant as well as a leisure centre and pro shop.
The course itself has recently been revamped but still retains the same magic that has made Dromoland so popular.
