Bunratty.

Less than five kilometers from Shannon Airportinfo is the village of Bunratty, whose main attraction, Bunratty Castle, is almost 600 years old.
In 1960 the castle became a national monument and was opened to the public and since then has become an internationally-renowned tourist destination and an Irish icon every bit as famous as the Eiffel Tower or the Statue of Liberty and every bit as loved.

Right beside the castle is Durty Nelliesinfo another well-loved Irish icon and perhaps the most famous pub in all of Ireland, where, in addition to a pint of the good stuff you can also dine there, either in the pub itself, or in the Loft or Oyster restaurant section. For a truly memorable and unique dining experience, however, Bunratty Castle's famous banquetsinfo are not to be missed.

The Bunratty banquets, which are held within the castle itself, recreate the feeling of a real medieval banquet with all staff, servants and entertainers dressed in traditional garb. The food is served by customed maidens and servants, each course fit for a king, and with the very best musicians, singers and entertainers, not to mention the sweet intoxicating meadinfo the Bunratty banquet truly is a feast for the senses.
To avoid dissapointment be sure to well in advance as the banquet is phenomenonly popular with both tourits and natives alike!

Another attraction not to be missed is the Bunratty Folk Parkinfo located to the rear of castle. The Folk Park is yet another step back through time to a bygone age of, one, perhaps, most associated with Ireland, as seen on stage and silver screen and in the wealth of literature that has made Ireland so famous. Every building is built - brick by brick, stone by stone - to recreate a town from 19th century Ireland, info with farmhouses, townhouses, shops and schools just to name a few. Almost every building in the park is open and can be entered and explored at will. We reccomend a short explority visit to Mac’s pub for a pint or two, as well as some live traditional music,a warm fire and a warm Irish welcome.

And if all that doesn’t quench your thirst you can always visit the Bunratty Wineryinfo who make their own mead as well as a more legally-acceptable brand of poitíninfo (as opposed to the prohibited, illegally-distilled version.)
For those of whom shopping serves as a more dangerous intoxicant there’s plenty of places to shop in Bunratty, including both Avocainfo & Blarney Woollen Millsinfo where one can purchase an original, hand-weaved woollen sweater as well as all manner of gifts and souvenirs.
